テディ・ペンダーグラス / Cleveland 1977 (1CDR)

人生のほとんどをフィラデルフィアで過ごしたテディ・ペンダーグラス。ハロルド・メルビン＆ザ・ブルーノーツのリード・シンガーでしたが76年にグループを脱退、フィラデルフィア・インターナショナル・レーベルからファースト・ソロ・アルバムをリリース。その頃のライブをKing Biscuit Flower Hourより最高峰のサウンドボード録音で収録。そのアルバムからの曲が中心ですが、ハロルド・メルビン＆ザ・ブルーノーツのR&Bナンバーワン「Wake Up Everybody」は嬉しい披露です。ラスト2曲はファーストからヒットしたシングル2曲で、いよいよテディ―が世に羽ばたいていくその宣言のように感じられます。この後5枚連続プラチナ・アルバムをリリース、82年3月の自動車事故により肩から下が麻痺したものの復活、07年に引退を発表するまでソロとして成功を収め続けました。テディは10年1月に呼吸不全で亡くなっています。
